All is Merry and Bright!

It is time for the big studio reveal!  Just a few days ago, I posted about decorating an adorable space for Christmas and it is now done.  I think I need some toothpicks in my eyes to keep myself awake as I have been thinking and dreaming non-stop about this decorating for the last several days.  When I haven’t been thinking about it, I have been putting the pieces together, cutting ribbon, stringing lights, covering myself and everything else in glitter, and having a holly jolly time.

When I set to work creating a space, I try to envision what I want it to look like when it is done, but most of the time, I just go with the flow and let inspiration take over.  I had a pretty clear idea of what I wanted for this space, but when you are working on a very limited budget and trying to use as much thrift store goodness as you can, you have to learn to be creative and improvise.  I find my inspiration while perusing the shelves and aisles of the local thrift stores and big box stores.  I rarely buy anything that is already created, but instead find bits and pieces of things that I can put together in whatever why the spirit moves.  I prefer originals instead of something right out of the box!

When I walked into the studio a couple of days ago to start the decorating this is what it looked like…

Because of the bright colors in the space, I decided to use equally bright Christmas decor.  Traditional red and green just would not work in this place!  To make it pop, I went away from the traditional green tree to a much more whimsical all white tree.  And I am so glad I did.  The bright colors pop right off the tree and add so much drama.  To say I am in love with this tree is a complete understatement!

Are you ready for this?  I am so excited to reveal this!  I wish you could all see it in person because it is so much fun, but pictures will have to suffice…

Seriously, that white tree is amazing!  I had no idea when I bought it at Wal-mart for $40.00 just how much I would love it, but I LOVE IT!!

Want the grand total of what I spent on EVERYTHING?

This includes the tree, all decor, ornaments, art, a door wreath, and ALL!

$189.60!!!

Tomorrow I will show pictures of all the detail shots from the space so you can get up close and personal with all the goodies :)

A Thrifty Christmas

With thoughts of Christmas swirling in my head, I decided to start creating some pieces for Studio Share at The Loft. The decorating couldn’t begin without some stops at the thrift stores for much needed pieces.  Now, I know what you are thinking…

Thrift stores just have old junk!

But, that is NOT TRUE.  You just have to be able to walk into one, see past the junk, and find the treasures.  And there are always treasures!

My findings included:

  1. A basic Christmas greenery wreath for $1.99 (would have had to pay $10 or more at Hobby Lobby)
  2. A table top tree that was in excellent shape in a silver pot for $4.99
  3. 2 bags of brightly colored plastic ornaments (perfect for spaces where kids will be) for $1.98
  4. A white glittery metal basket for $1.99

That puts me at just over $10.00 for items I would have paid over $50.00 for at Hobby Lobby or Michaels.  Those are savings worth smiling about!

I haven’t used the glittery basket just yet, but soon, I will be decking it out in Christmas splendor :)

Here are a couple of the creations I made with my thrift store buys (I used some ribbon that I already had on hand too).

Total price for these 2 Christmas items: about $8.00 (subtracting the $1.99 basket since I haven’t used that yet)

I am going to be bringing these pieces to The Loft this afternoon.  Tomorrow, I am hoping to post the mixed media art pieces that I made for the space.  They are super cute and very bright!

Have I ever mentioned how much I LOVE finding thrifty deals ;)

The Christmas Decorating Itch

I have an itch…and no, it is not the kind that comes from chicken pox!

It is the kind I get when I am in the decorating mood.  The problem is, it is pretty early to start thinking about Christmas decorating.  Or is it?

It is even more fun when I have more than one place that I get to decorate this year!  Besides my house, I am going to be working on making The Loft at Studio Share look festive this year.

1185587_529905193744381_1080614135_nI helped decorate The Loft several months ago and just love the bright colors!

To go with the fun colors, I found some equally bright and cheery ornaments and such to decorate this adorable space…

patternThe plan is to deck out the space with some Christmas splendor next week and then I will post some after pictures.  Can’t wait!

What could it be?

I found a new treasure at the thrift store and I just had to share.  I am not entirely sure what I am going to do with it, but I am sure I will come up with some plan.  I was sort of thinking a shelf in the laundry room/bathroom, but first I need to do something with it.  As it is, it is pretty much ugly!  So anything thoughts on what this could become?  Or what it once was?

Don’t you just love the sage green and cream color of this piece?  It really screams 1990’s to me, but not for long.  The spray paint will be making a comeback and this little treasure will be pretty once more.  But, you will have to wait until tomorrow or the next day to see it!

Inspiration Wednesday

It’s Wednesday and for some reason Wednesday always feels like the day that you just need a little jump start.  The week is half way over and I always start thinking about the weekend ahead.  I am thinking Wednesdays might be a good day for inspiration and maybe, just, maybe the inspirations will give me the nudge to get something accomplished on the weekends.  Or in the case that I have had a busy week, maybe they will inspire me to relax a bit.

Inspiration #1This blogger bought the dresser above at Goodwill and transformed it into the the desk below.  Amazing what a little paint, new hardware and some elbow grease can do.  This inspires me because I am going to look at some vintage dressers for my son’s room and want to paint them as well.  The old and unwanted becomes new again!

This after picture is so awesome!  Almost can’t believe it is the same dresser!
Inspiration #2:  Looking at these 2 old end tables, most people would think they were just ugly and they really are!!!  But look what Brooke at All Things Thrifty did with them!

From ugly and old to gorgeous!
Simply beautiful!!!  I would love to have these in my house!  What in inspiring post!!
Makes me want to go home and paint some furniture!
